Itinerary Highlights

  • St. Johns Cave: Umm Hararim impresses with its unique cave and canyon system. The main reef surrounded by a beautiful hard coral garden is on its south-west side full of holes like a Swiss cheese. In shallow water you can dive through the open passages to see the light show of the sun and the nice soft corals growing inside.
  • Abu Fandera, full of coral blocks between 15m and 20m depth. Amazing soft corals in all kind of colors, schools of reef fishes and small critters are common.

Dive sites in this itinerary

  • St Johns

    This vast reef system lies furthest to the south on the Egyptian side, 10 miles from the Sudanese border. There are dozens of excellent dives. Its reefs rise up from a gigantic underwater plateau hidden in the inky blue water.

  • Abu Galawa Soraya

    Abu Galawa Soraya lies in the western part of the Fury Shoals,about 12 km from Wadi Lahmi on the mainland. The site is not part of the large main reef, but rather a nameless approximately 100 m wide remote reef to the west. The site is popular because of its shallow depth, excellent visibility and weak current, it offers perfect conditions even for beginners.

  • Shaab Marsa Alam

    Shaab Marsa Alam is a large semi-circular reef shaped like a bean. It is surrounded by sandy bottom with isolated rock and reef formations. The north-eastern part is particularly impressive, with a unique and, above all, species-rich coral garden. It is not uncommon to see reef sharks here. If there is a current and with a bit of luck you can also see small black tip sharks or Longimanus. To the south, in the lagoon, there is a small Wreck at around 17 m depth.

  • Abu Fandera

    South of the St. Johns area there is the 6 km reef line from west to east of Abu Fandera. Between the six long reefs you find passages which have different topographies full of coral blocks between 15 m and 20 m depth. Amazing soft corals in all kind of colors, reef fishes and small critters are common. Often you see a small reef sharks and napoleons and the highlight is the hump head parrot fish which is passing by in big schools of 30 or more.

  • Shaab Maksur

    Shaab Maksur is a small but long reef with a plateau in the north and south and drop offs in the west and east side. At the north terraced plateau you can see often dolphins, barracudas or reef sharks passing by. The south plateau with its bigger coral blocks is home for many species.
